What is a SIP and how is it calculated?
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) lets you invest a fixed amount in a mutual fund every month instead of investing a large sum at once. Over time, your money benefits from compounding and from buying at different market prices.
M = P × ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i)
- M is the amount you receive at maturity.
- P is the amount you invest every month.
- i is the monthly rate of return: annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100.
- n is the total number of monthly payments.
Things to keep in mind
The return rate used here is only an estimate. Actual mutual fund returns change with the market and are not guaranteed. Starting early and staying invested for longer usually has a bigger effect than the size of the monthly amount. This calculator is for planning purposes and is not financial advice.
