How is age calculated?
Your age is the time that has passed between your date of birth and a chosen date, which is today by default. This calculator gives the result in years, months and days, plus totals in months, weeks, days and hours.
Age = Selected date − Date of birth
- Subtract the birth year from the current year to get the years.
- Subtract the birth month from the current month to get the months.
- Subtract the birth day from the current day to get the days.
- If the days or months come out negative, borrow from the next larger unit, using the real number of days in the month.
Example
For someone born on 15 August 1995, the age on 22 October 2026 is 31 years, 2 months and 7 days.

What about leap years?
The calculation uses the actual calendar, so leap years are counted correctly. If you were born on 29 February, your birthday is shown as 1 March in years that are not leap years.
